What is the BYU iOscars event all about?

The BYU iOscars '09 event is all about giving students the opportunity to become familiar with video-editing technology and enabling them to utilize another creative outlet.

Everyone (students, faculty, staff, alumni, non-affiliates...whoever) are invited to create an up to 3 minute movie using Apple's iMovie software.
The movies must be submitted by March 20, 2009, and on March 27, 2009 at 7 p.m., the campus and community will be invited to join us for the premiere night, where all qualifying movies will be judged by audience. The films with the most audience votes will win the three top prizes. In addition we will have judges who will award prizes based on overall judges choice, best cinematography, and best use of the years theme.

    The event is very simple:

  1. Come up with an idea that incorporates this year's theme.
  2. Shoot and make your movie. Don't have a camcorder or computer? See the resources page for everything you need.
  3. Submit your movie, 10 dollars, and the web registration form by 12:00 p.m. on Monday March 20, 2009. Read the Steps and Rules for details on this step.
  4. Bring a dollar and a date, then watch your movie on the Premiere night in the Joseph Smith Building Auditorium.
  5. Cross your fingers, do a little dance, and hope you win.
