Rules, Steps, and Submission
    Rules

  1. Your movie must be created entirely in iMovie (iMovie is only available for Macintosh computers and ships free with every Mac).
To clarify, this means that all motion content must come exclusively from iMovie (transitions, effects, etc). Non-motion content ("art") may be created in other applications. However, any other application that creates motion content (for example: Macromedia Flash or Adobe After Effects) is not allowed.
  2. You may only use iMovie to import, edit and export your video.
  3. You may use any version of iMovie.
  4. You may not use any non-default iMovie plugins (for example: ThreeGee).
  5. By submitting your movie, you give permission to the BYU Mac Users Group to distribute it in any form it sees fit.
  6. One entry per person. (This doesn't eliminate you from helping other people or groups though.)
  7. We reserve the right to reject any entries that don't fulfill the above criteria. In the event of too many entries, some videos may be cut by the BYUMUG board and will not be shown on the premiere night, however all the films will be included on the iOscars DVD which will be available at the event and in Joe Allred's office after the event.

Failure to abide by the aforementioned rules can result in immediate disqualification at the discretion of the BYUMUG.

    Steps

  1. Make a film that is no longer than 3 minutes and follows this years theme. What does that mean? Basically we want to give people a lot of flexibility, so you can interpret the theme as loosely as you want. Because the theme is so broad we are not requiring that your film have anything specific in it but rather you can incorporate the theme into your film any way you want. Again, there are no special requirements for this year's films, but keep in mind that we will have special prizes for the best use of this year's theme and your movie will be much more likely to be shown in the premiere if the BYUMUG judging panel can see some correlation between the theme and your film, so be creative. If you need ideas on how to use this years theme, watch the movies from previous years. Be creative and surprise us with interesting uses of the theme. Your creativity will be rewarded! Again, your movie can be about anything you want as long as it has something to do with BYU. This means that your film can be about your car, your shoes, or your long-lost Aunt--we don't care, just as long as you some how find a way to incorporate the theme, so be creative and have fun with it.
  2. Once you've shot your footage, start editing it in iMovie.
  3. When you finish editing your movie, you must burn your movie, and a screenshot of your iMovie project onto a CD or DVD in the correct format. You must turn your movie in as a Quicktime-exported file in Full DV format (please please please don't compress it because it'll look terrible on the big screen).

NOTE: We only accept CDs or DVDs with .dv files on them. We will not accept any other format, including Video DVDs, MiniDV Tapes, VHS, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, and BetaMax Tapes

  4. The final step that must be completed before you submit your film is to fill out the online film submission form (you must register on the site to submit a movie). Then bum 10 dollars off a roommate and bring your movie and the money to Joe Allred in Room 3951 of the WSC (cougar computer office) BEFORE 12:00pm on March 20th, 2009. Congratulations and good luck!!
