Resources
Don't have a camcorder? Never used iMovie? Don't have a computer? Don't have a good idea for your movie?

Then you've come to the right place. This is a list of resources that are available to help you on your way to Hollywood (and by Hollywood, we mean the iOscars premiere night... Smiling )

Need a Computer and iMovie?
Your best choice is to find a friend with a Mac! Chances are you have one. Barring that, you can always use your educational discount and buy a new one at the BYU Bookstore. iMovie and tons of other great software is included on every new Mac. If that isn't an option, there are several Mac labs on campus that have iMovie installed on them and are available to students.

  • 3330 HBLL - Digital Media Lab
The Media Lab has 10 fast new iMacs with the latest video production software. Students can reserve up to five hours at a time on these machines. The staff is very knowledgeable about iMovie and video editing in general. They also teach short "Home Depot" style classes that students can take without worrying about credit or grades.
  • 1133 JFSB - Mac Lab
This is a lab of brand new iMac computers with video editing equipment and all the software you need to create your film. This lab is technically only available for students majoring in Linguistics, Humanities, and Philosophy.
  • 1102 TMCB - Fruit Lab
The Fruit Lab is a room full of Mac Minis and requires a Computer Science account to log on.
  • Other Mac labs are located in the Brimhall and McKay buildings
Need a Camcorder?
  • The BYU library (HBLL) has offered support to the iOscars in the form of the new Media Lab, located in room 3330 HBLL. The media lab is open to all students and has everything you need to make a great iOscars movie. The lab has digital video cameras and tripods available for checkout as well as other media equipment. They also have a staff of students who are very knowledgeable about iMovie and video editing in general.
  • Apple has also loaned us a number of Canon Mini DV camcorders specifically for iOscars use, these will be available the week before the films are due in Joe Allred's office (3951 WSC).
  • Also, many departments and faculty members have camcorders that are available to students in that department, so ask around.
  • If you still can't find a camera, check with your friends, family, dates, and even your ex flame. Someone's bound to have one.
